How science served imperialism
Science was used all at once as a tool, a pretext, and part of the legitimization for colonial conquest and domination. Marseille was a hotspot of science in the colonial context (geography, economy, medicine, botany, biology, anthropology) through various research and instruction institutions. As well as through museums or the Chamber of Commerce within which we can find the same promoters and beneficiaries of the conquests. This themed collection allows us to understand the direct links between science and colonization.
