Working in marseillais companies in the imperial context

Labor issues allow us to observe how the power relations created by companies are evocative of an imperial context, and one of the most brutal aspects. According to the eras and the territories in which they were established, the companies of Marseille participated in the slave trade, relied on indentured servitude, or founded their profit on slavery and forced labor. The development of wage labor at the end of the 19^th century reduced the domination and discrimination, but did not entirely eliminate it from these relationships. In the colonies, like in the factories of Marseille, colonial labor was systematically less well compensated despite them occupying more grueling positions.
